It is a common belief that the actual roulette wheel was invented by the 17th century French mathematician and scientist Blaise Pascal. The Dominican monks later on brought the game back with them to Europe and used it as a type of monastic diversion. This wheel was known as the single-zero wheel and was invented by two Frenchmen Francois and Louis Blanc. This version of the actual roulette wheel became well loved in European casinos but was second-hand in America.

When the Americans second-hand the single-zero wheel, this changed the course of the game for all time. Until now, there are two forms of the actual roulette wheel – the single-zero or European wheel and the double-zero or the American wheel.

The American wheel contains 38 facts, counting 0, 00, and 1 through 36, and has a house advantage of 5.26%. This means that for every $100-bet you make, the house gains $5.26 in profit. On the other hand, the European wheel has a house advantage of 2.7%, which is roughly half that of its American cousin.

Actual Roulette Wheel – Number and Color Placement

The actual roulette wheel is designed in such a way that the element of random is achieved to the fullest. All the facts in the actual roulette wheel, counting the low, high, odd, and even, are alternated and spaced out evenly. The two zeros are placed against a conservational felt background to dodge confusion while the rest of the facts are alternately colored red and black.

All the facts in the actual roulette wheel add up to a total of 666 but when you add only the odd facts, you get 342. This is the reason why mathematical balance in the actual roulette wheel is impossible to achieve. Thus, manufacturers placed much concentration on the arrangement of the facts and the colors in order to give the actual roulette wheel the best possible mathematical balance.
